Celebrities, athletes and locals helped raise over $175,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the Nautica South Beach Triathlon on Sunday.
Over 2,400 people competed side-by-side on the shores of Miami Beach for the 3rd annual event to raise money for pediatric cancer research.
Hannah Montana and Fame star, Anna Maria Perez de Taglé, kicked off the festivities by singing the national anthem. NFL Carolina Panther running back DeAngelo Williams hosted the awards ceremony and led the Kid Run and Tot Trot.
The triathlon was divided into two races. The all-new International Distance Race kicked off with a 1.5k ocean swim, followed by a 40k bike over Miami Beach’s causeways, and concluded with a 10k run alongside Miami Beach’s famous Art Deco District.
Competitors in that race included co-anchor and national correspondent for NBC's Today Natalie Morales (2:52:17, below) and actress Eliza Dushku (02:45:42), who stuck alongside boyfriend and former NBA player, Rick Fox (02:45:42) throughout the whole race (above, right).
At 7:30 a.m. participants in the Classic Distance Race hit the beach for a half-mile ocean swim, 19-mile bike and 4-mile out-and-back run. NBC’s The Biggest Loser winner Ali Vincent (02:17:11) ran in that race. The Bold and The Beautiful’s Heather Tom (02:05:43) placed first in the Female Celebrity Division.
Both races finished up on South Beach with hundreds of spectators cheering the triathletes toward the finish line.
First place winner overall in the Men’s Division was twelve-time Ironman champion Chris "Macca" McCormack (01:15:11), who had a photo-finish against fellow Ironman champion Chris Lieto (01:15:12).
First place overall in the Women’s Division was Laurel Wassner (1:26:10) and close behind was model Jenny Fletcher (1:30:43) and local Miami participant Elise Schillmoller (1:39:56) who ranked second and third overall.
